See, this was why the argument for narrative evaluations at my old school was so important. I was there as they were being phased out and the change from caring about learning the material to how to make the "A" grade was so fast, it made your head spin. The students no longer cared about the material other than what they needed to know for the test. Sad.
It's problems like this that make me worried about our public schools. With more and more emphasis being put on passing the standardized tests, we're putting more effort into teaching kids how to pass standardized tests and less on how to think. The above sort of thinking seems to be the result, and a nation of slackers, I fear, is soon to follow (if not already here).
