Oh my gods, please let this not be true.
AlterNet: War on Iraq: The Fear That Kills
The latrine for female soldiers at Camp Victory wasn't located near their barracks, so they had to go outside if they needed to use the bathroom. "There were no lights near any of their facilities, so women were doubly easy targets in the dark of the night," Karpinski told retired US Army Col. David Hackworth in a September 2004 interview.It was there that male soldiers assaulted and raped women soldiers. So the women took matters into their own hands. They didn't drink in the late afternoon so they wouldn't have to urinate at night. They didn't get raped. But some died of dehydration in the desert heat, Karpinski said.
American Soldiers were raping other American soldiers, and the victims felt they had no recourse save risking death? This is exactly what happens when you condone torture; the basic humanity gets stripped away from those doing the assaulting; the begin to see everyone as merely walking meat. We need to end this...

I suggest you hold off on judgement for a bit. This is probably mostly bullshit, from a far-left group that already has "indicted" Bush for:
1) Wars of Aggression, particular reference to Iraq and Afghanistan;
2) Torture and Indefinite Detention;
3) Destruction of the Global Environment, distortion of science and obstruction of efforts to stem global warming;
4) Attacks on Global Public Health and Reproductive Rights, potentially genocidal effects of enforcing abstinence-only, and global gag rule concerning abortion; and
5) Failure of Bush administration, despite foreknowledge, to protect life during and after Hurricane Katrina.
And now even the commandant of abu Ghraib is pals with them, and she's OK if she can hurt Bush or Rumsfeld. Sounds pretty stinky to me.

Okay. Two simple tests.
1. Okay, lets assume that it's true, the women didn't drink after dark. Unless the didn't drink during the day, too - they still aren't going to dehydrate sufficiently to die... it takes some time to do that (different from heat stroke, mind you) and the disorientation and virtual dementia that sets in before you get to the point of actually dying would attract attention.
2. If you check Karpinski's testimony (the transcripts are available online, she actually names at least one name. That name, of a Master Sergeant (an E8, second-most senior enlisted rank and not a good candidate for dehyrating, frankly) does *not* appear in the casualty list.
Just a thought.
