Segregation still part of Alabama Heritage.

WSFA TV Montgomery, AL - Amendment Two recount likely for Nov. 29

With an amendment to delete segregation-era language from Alabama's Constitution headed toward defeat by a narrow margin, state officials say an automatic recount would likely be set for November 29th.

But talking about the Republican “southern strategy” is insulting, somehow. And of course, the Republican Party is not the home of the racists...

(BTW: bush won Alabama by 62%)

What the press isn't telling you here (no surprise) is that the objection many have to the proposed change is that it would also turn state-funded education into a "right" and would cause all kinds of hassles regarding the huge number of private schools in the state. Which is why, if you look at the very end of that story you linked, they note that another initiative with modified language is going to be put up right away.

As for the so-called "Southern Strategy" -- of course it's insulting. It's also mostly a fabrication. Unless you can point to any Presidential or Senatorial candidate of significance of the last 30 years who's proposed returning to segregation or undoing the Civil Rights Act? Uh-huh. I thought not.

Lose the prejudice, man, and look deeper. A year or two ago when left-wing anti-school-choice activists suddenly revived segregation-era language still buried in state law to try to stop Jeb Bush's school choice reforms, no one called them closet racists.

Although maybe they should have. After all, school choice is overwhelmingly supported in black communities, and it's overwhelmingly middle and upper class white elites who oppose school choice. Some would suggest that it's because they don't want darkies in their nice suburban schools.

Is that fair? Well about as fair as this "southern strategy" stuff, anyway....

No offense, but does anyone remember which party fought FOR civil rights? How about which party fought AGAINST civil rights?

Anyone remember which party was in power in the South during the Crow law era? Segregation?

Now, fast forward a bit... Anyone know the party that's proposing/discussing secession, again?
Anyone know which party's policies officially support race promotion and anything BUT equality amoung the races?
Anyone know which party has been yelling racial, sexist, and derogatory insults against the perceived members of the other party?
