Random Shenanigans

Given that I was called one of those "Leftiform Invertebrates"; I feel compelled to respond...

John, John, John. I was recently offered a job helping get a right-wing Republican elected. Hell, I was going to accept that job until he decided against it. How Left wing can I be? Some of my best friends are Republicans...

Also, a couple of months is most certainly not the long haul. More importantly, housing troops in a country is not anything like nation building. Granted the latter can usually not happen with out the former, but it does not necessarily follow that the latter is happening...

Moreover, I was skeptical of Bush at the time because he specifically disclaimed any interest in nation building. I was right to be, and I stand by that skepticism. You may note that this did not change my eventual opinion on whether the war was necessary or not. Ultimately Iraq is better off without Saddam, even if we don't leave behind a constitution...

You were right, of course, that the administration had disavowed "nation-building." --(I just couldn't resist giving you a little poke!)

But the Bushites have publicly commited us to staying as long as it takes, so I think it is fair to say we are in for the long haul...and our troops are not just 'housed" in Iraq, they are very busy lads. And what they are doing is very much a part of nation building, since security and order are the first priority.
